Hi! I’m Gillian Byers and I thrive on creating safe spaces for you to connect with your body, showing you step by step how to increase ease of movement and build strength in ways that meet you where you are so that you feel and function better!
I know how far away being able to walk up a hill without getting out of breath can feel. Perhaps being able to shop on your own without feeling exhausted or hurting something feels impossible?
Imagine playing with your kids and being fully in the moment, enjoying instead of struggling. What would it be like to go through your day feeling strong and capable?
It can feel SO. FAR. AWAY.
Are you feeling frustrated? Does it seem that the only way to be more comfortably active is to commit to some large amount of exercise that feels impossible?
Do your efforts to exercise backfire? Leaving you feeling even less capable?
I’ve experienced that helpless feeling. Whether it was simply lack of activity or an injury, I’ve had to rebuild basic fitness levels several times. It’s hard to believe something that feels so foreign could ever feel natural and easy.
It was my own journey of building strength that lead me to explore becoming an ACE certified Personal Trainer. I discovered that I loved learning about the body and how to help it safely build strength and endurance. I continue my learning journey by reading, attending workshops, trying things out for myself and listening to my clients.
What I experienced was that feel good steps, especially small ones!, taken consistently add up in a powerful way! Things begin to snowball and movement gets easier and more fun to do.
It all starts with kindness and being mindful of what your body wants right now. This can be an incredibly difficult gift to give ourselves. But it’s so hugely rewarding when we do!
I’m passionate about approaching exercise from a weight neutral perspective. It’s incredibly powerful to move from a place of wanting to feel good and function with more ease and let any weight loss pressure fall to the side. For me exercising to lose weight added a lot of stress to my life and contributed to some very real struggles with disordered eating. Focusing on respecting my body and finding myself at home in it, no matter it’s size, has been, and still is, an incredible journey, a freeing and empowering one!
I offer body positive highly personalized strength training and classes, all in the comfort of your home! If you have a good internet connection, then I can meet you anywhere in the world!
I also offer in person training and classes in Newberg, Oregon at Chehalem Physical Therapy Inc.!
I recently completed continuing education in exercise for Fibromyalgia and Arthritis. Taking things at the pace your body is ready for is even more crucial with most chronic conditions. In conjunction with other care, appropriate physical activity can help you participate in life with more ease, support and comfort! I’ve created an online monthly membership to help you gently ease into movement!

My first job doing what I LOVE was at Nehalem County Recreation District where I did my first personal training and taught an Arthritis and Strength class.
Since starting Mindfully Active I’ve worked with a variety of fantastic clients helping them build strength and gentle movement programs that fit their needs; be it basic fitness, working with fibromyalgia, lymes, arthritis, POTS and other chronic conditions, letting go of body shame and more.
